One of the 3 Stages of SSC!
Formed in 1987, the Children's Theatre Company of South Suburban College has become renowned through the south suburbs as THE place for plays for young audiences. The company is open to both community members and students. They perform once a year, typically in January, to sold out houses of grammar schools, day care centers and home schoolers.

ELLIE SHUNKO is the founder of the Children's Theatre Company and manager of the Kindig Performing Arts Center. She spent the first 11 years as producer of the children's plays at SSC. In 1998, she took over the directing responsibilities as well. Since that time, attendance doubled and the company has a loyal following of kids AND adults from all over the Chicagoland area.

She is a self-professed goofball, which she claims works to her advantage as a director of plays for youngsters. If you really want to read her biography, click here.

Shunko chooses the scripts of double Shubert Playwriting award-winner, Michele L. Vacca, as her vehicles. "Michele's scripts are tightly written and enourmously entertaining, but they still leave plenty of room for artistic interpretation by the director and cast." Vacca and production teammate Robert Boburka, are the talent behind Classics On Stage!

MICHELE L. VACCA, the award winning author of all the scripts contained in the collection at Classics On Stage, has spent many years working in professional children's theatre as an actress, playwright, dramaturge and director, primarily in the Chicago metropolitan area.

A graduate of Northwestern University, holding both a Bachelor of Science in Theatre and a Master of Arts in Playwriting, Ms. Vacca received a Sam S. Shubert Fellowship for playwriting as an undergraduate.

After she earned her Master's Degree, the Shubert Foundation in New York chose her as one of four graduate recipients in the United States to receive a second Fellowship. Since that time her children's theatre scripts have been performed thousands of times in numerous theatres and schools across the US, as well as internationally.

All of their children's theatre scripts and plays are available for production by amateur or professional companies. Visit their website at for a complete list of titles.
